Default good old Mosian Nagant

I was at the range the other day just shooting up some paper at 100yds, and my 85yr old 91/30 was as solid as ever.

Don't you just love a good solid rifle that keeps on going?

I like that cartridge with its nice big fat rim. I'll bet a 45-70 could be built on it. There was a guy at the range with a MN and an SMLE in .303. He couldn't hit a jug at 100 yards with the MN, but with the SMLE he nailed it on the first try. I looked through them both and the SMLE had a far superior sight picture. The Brits had a winner there.

As a shooter of the MN. I would agree on the sight picture. There are little tricks to the MN that once learned make it real accurate.

Sounds good, I was planning on being at the gun show at about 9AM.
I hear you on the permit, I keep hoping it will arrive soon.

I love the older rifles, I inherited two 1917 Enfields made by Winchester & Eddystone, When I was a wee little lad, I was hunting with a couple of friends who had thier scoped hunting rifles, and were having a real fun time making all sorts of comments about my big heavy ancient boat anchore. My one friend carried a ruger in .270 the other had a real nice browning 7mm that along with his scope set him back about $1,200. Sitting on a bluff coming off of the uintas, we spotted and ranged a nice 4 point out to 457 yards. After the first two missed with their well aimed "scoped" shoots, I was able to take the shot using the standard military elevation sites that came with the gun. Shot was held just above the left shoulder and droped the deer in its tracks. Love the Grande ole .30-06. That shot was well over 22 years ago. Still shoot the 1917's but only for rec. They are still great shooters.

I say nay. I like classic rifles in a classic original configuration, especially classic military rifles.

I know, Nothing like putting lipstick on a pig so to say AND almost tripling the cost of the rifle.
