Angry Remington problems

Anyone ever heard of having problems with a Remington 12 gauge shotgun? Me neither, until mine. One out of every 20 shells gets jammed. I just figured that since I am fairly new to guns, I was doing something wrong. I have several buddies that have been around guns all their lives and they had the exact same problem. It's still under warranty, so hopefully they will hook me up. Any suggestions?

What model of remington is it? Occasionally I have seen 870's hang on he ejection when they are hot and/or dirty. But it seems to be more on the shooter for not being firm enough when the slide the pump back. It seems like a casual slide back will cause cause the cause to bind.

I've got a Remington 870 Exp Mag. It has never had a jam, thousands of rounds. Do you possible have a Remington 870 non Mag (so its only made for the 3" shells) and your running something longer?

We have a Remington "Wingmaster" 870 sitting here at the shop, My brother just brought it back to my dad because he bought a Benelli shot gun, Its had thousands shot through it as well, No issues here, Im with Kurt thinking it could be the type of rounds shot through it.

I just did a search on the Wingmaster, Its a Sept. 1952

I have the Remington 870 Super Mag Synthetic. Should be this exact same one below. I have cleaned it several times very thoroughly and been aware that I need to man up when pumping it back. It's not either of those unfortunately. I usually have to remove the barrel and pry the shell out with a knife. I don't think it's the shells though either. I have used Federals and Winchesters. Makes no difference.

the gun has a flaw. i have been an 870 owner for many years with nary a problem (thousands of rounds). RRs didn't have 100 rounds through it and it was jamming so tight you have to punch the shell out from the muzzle (annoying).

it isn't a case of bad ammo (cheap stuff from walmart is what he buys) because it jams with no matter what you are shooting. and yes he has the super magnum (i taught him well ).

Yeah, that's what everyone says. I am the lucky winner! One in a million. Funny thing is I researched this gun and was told it was pretty much the most reliable thing out there!

Just remember that every gun is diffrent. You and I go buy the same type gun at cabelas. a remington 12 ga. with 28 inch barrel with removable chokes, synthetic stock, shots up to 3.5 shells. You have no problem and I have lots of problems. That is just the name of the game.

If you have to remove the barrel. I would say look at the shell. Is it the right one. 3" for a 3" chamber. I know this is a stupid place to start. But I see it alot out hunting with new shot gun owners. They pull up to take a shot and blow the barrel apart and have a nice hospital visit cause they got a 3.5" shell for a 3" chamber.

Compare the shell that you have to pry out to another you dont. take it home to a mic. see if it has a diffrence in size of shell. again. these may be in the long range of left feild. but I have seen it before. I bought a box of winchester dry locks last year while duck hunting. My remington would shot three out of four. When I got home I took a mic to them and found that the shells that would not work were buldged at the base. The powder expanded and made the buldge. I contated winchester and they replace the box of shells. they also said that if there was any damage done to the gun cause by the shells. they would repair the gun.. thought I never had damage. they were very helpful in that regaurd.

Cabelas should have a quality enough gun smith you could get it fixed at ..Another good way to clean our shot guns is to simply get a can of spray carb cleaner and give it a bath without taking it apart ... SURE FASTER THAN taking them apart ... blow it out after spraying down and the a light mist of oil and back to shooting .Don't forget to drag something thru the barrrel.

Default Update:

Just found out that one of my co-workers just bought 2 Remington 870s and BOTH are also doing the same thing! I am waiting on a return label now although I am sure there are some great gunsmiths that may not have a problem figuring out and fixing the issue.

There have been several issues with 870 express shotguns not ejecting the spent shell. Most likely the problem is that the barrel heats up and expands just enough to hold onto the spent shell. I understand an easy fix is to use some 0000 (or 4/0) steel wool wrapped around a bore brush and polish the inside of the chamber. You can use a drill at low speed to polish the bore.

My 2 cents. Give me change back if it works.
